Facebook Bullshit – We Got Zukked

Facebook Censorship and the Challenges of Bot-Driven Moderation

One Groups Path to fighting it.

We got zukked: Over-Censorship by Facebook Bots

For over three years, our thriving Facebook community of 83,000 members has been a place for open conversation and support. Over the years the mandatory restrictions on every thing has gotten more of a challenge to deal with.

Recently, however, automated censorship has ramped up due to Facebook’s bot-driven moderation. Simple phrases like “burning a plant” or “cutting a plant” and calling a plant a “dramatic bitch”—harmless within our context—have been repeatedly flagged, leading to unwarranted takedowns.

False Flags When Protecting Members from Scams

Our efforts to protect members from scammers and hackers have also been punished by bot errors. Posts exposing fraud and account thefts have been flagged as violations, despite our genuine intent to keep our community safe.

The Breaking Point: Misinterpreted “Restricted Goods”

Our community faced suspension after four back-to-back bot-driven takedowns claimed we were engaging in the “sale of restricted goods.” These posts, including our “Trade Thursday” discussions, were erroneously classified as drug sales, ultimately leading to a permanent suspension despite our appeals.

Automated Reviews Over Human Oversight

Despite Facebook’s assurances of human reviews, the automated responses suggest otherwise. Bots detected “illegal content,” but no human stepped in to verify the errors. This lack of human oversight has serious consequences, putting authentic communities at risk.

Seeking Fair Moderation for Online Communities

We are working to restore our group and are pushing for fair, transparent moderation. Censorship driven by bot inaccuracies should not stifle genuine online communities. We appreciate the support of our members and those advocating for better digital moderation practices.
